Cherry Boots

#21-22

After a several year hiatus from knife-making, I decided to get back into it in 2009. After spending a few months building myself a nice belt grinder, I was eager to start practicing knife grinding again, but I only had one small piece of blade steel left over from before (~7″ long). So, I cut it length-wise with a hacksaw (yup, that took forever) and set about making a pair of small boot knife style letter openers.

I had recently helped a friend build a kitchen as part of his house remodel and had come home with scraps of the Brazilian cherry that he was flooring his entire house with. Other than putting the grain in the wrong direction (for strength at least) the cherry made some very nice handles.
